Highly anticipated live draw to determine voting order and teams for the upcoming 2018 TAISC has taken place Saturday, April 7. TISC founder and president, as well as president of the Irish national jury, OlympicIRL was once again appointed to be the head delegate for the live show. For the most part he was joined by mrv86 (Mexico), hckosice (Slovakia), dcro (Croatia), DaniSRB (Serbia) and heywoodu (Netherlands) who helped to make the picks for the draw. Additionally, four more participants made brief appearances during the show: Werloc (Lithuania), bestmen (Algeria), Wanderer (New Zealand) and konig (Argentina).
The draw officially lasted for record-breaking five hours, however it turned out to be a success as record-breaking 40 pages of draw mixed with discussion were written. For the first time the draw featured a new segment: team allocation for the inaugural TISC Team Challenge. Therefore also for the first time every draw pick consisted of choosing a tile on three different grids, instead of the usual two grids. Participants were asked to choose a numbered tile to reveal a nation, then to choose an animal tile to reveal the voting position for the respective nation, and finally to choose a sports-themed tile to reveal the nation’s team and location allocation. The animal themed grid was chosen to honor the unprecedented TISC-WINTERFEST crossover decision. Meanwhile, the sports-themed grid was chosen to signify the sports nature of the Totallympics forum.
Overall, 40 nations were part of the draw. Brazil and Antarctica have had their voting positions and team/location allocations preselected, while Turkey, despite entering a song for the contest and eventually casting votes, was officially disqualified from the contest before the draw ceremony started.
Voting order, mostly determined by the live draw, reads as follows:
9. United States
26. Great Britain
36. New Zealand
As usual, voting schedule will be based on this draw and it is expected to get published soon. Some preliminary schedule models suggest that the Grand Final will likely start at 08:00 (GMT -03:00), on April 28, 2018. This start time could likely cause the first ever post-midnight European votes at TISC.
Team allocation for the Team Challenge reads as follows:
- Team Brasília – Algeria, Germany, Italy, New Zealand
- Team Cuiabá – Canada, Denmark, India, Portugal
- Team Fernando de Noronha – Austria, Greece, Serbia, Slovakia
- Team Foz de Iguaçu – France, Russia, Sweden, United States
- Team Gramado – Antarctica, Bulgaria, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Poland
- Team Manaus – Finland, Ireland, Romania, Slovenia
- Team Natal – Azerbaijan, Malta, Norway, Venezuela
- Team Ouro Preto – Croatia, Lithuania, Mexico, Netherlands
- Team Salvador – Indonesia, Iran, Moldova, Switzerland
- Team São Luís – Argentina, Colombia, Great Britain, Tunisia
- Team Rio de Janeiro – Brazil*
Team Rio de Janeiro will not take part in the TISC Team Challenge per se, however the host team will have a special role in the team competition, which hasn’t been completely determined at this point.
2018 Annual Live Draw was preceded by the very first public WINTERFEST draw, which was one of the decisions of the historic TISC-WINTERFEST crossover agreement. Results of the WINTERFEST draw can be accessed here. 31 nations and territories from all five continents are scheduled to take part in the former rival, now friendly contest.
